How many days until your anniversary, and when the round days fall

The anniversary calculator shows two things at once: how many full years, months and days have passed, and how many days that is in total. The two never line up the way you would expect — from 10 September 2005 to 10 September 2026 is exactly 21 years, but 7,670 days, five more than 21 × 365, because 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 each had a 29 February. That is why round day counts land on odd dates: the 1,000th day of that relationship is 6 June 2008, and the 10,000th only on 26 January 2033 — 27 years, 4 months and 16 days from the start.
Years and days are two different counts
For every date the calculator shows both the full years, months and days and the total number of days. The first is calendar arithmetic: 10 September 2005 to 10 September 2026 is 21 years, 0 months and 0 days, no matter how many days actually passed.
The second is the real number of turns of the Earth: 7,670 days. If every year had 365 days it would be 7,665. The five-day difference is 29 February in 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 — one extra day for each leap year in the period.
Because of that gap a round number of days never lands on a round number of years. If you are planning a surprise for someone's 10,000th day, you cannot treat it as roughly 27 years — you have to count days.

The calculator shows the last round day reached and the next two, because six rows would be too much on a small screen. The full list for one start date looks like this — the example is a relationship that began on 10 September 2005:

Why 10,000 days is further away than it sounds
Ten thousand days sounds like a round figure within easy reach, but it is 27 years, 4 months and 16 days. Couples celebrating a 25th anniversary are still not close: they are almost two and a half years short of it.
Smaller numbers are better for celebrating. A thousand days falls a little after the second anniversary (2 years, 8 months and 27 days) and 2,000 days five months and 21 days after the fifth. If you want a date that is neither a birthday nor an anniversary, those work.
29 February: an anniversary that falls on the 28th in most years
The date 29 February exists once every four years. In the other years the calculator puts the anniversary on 28 February — the same shift it uses for date differences, where a day at the end of a month is trimmed to the last one that exists.
That has a visible consequence. For a wedding on 29 February 2020, on 28 February 2026 the calculator reports the sixth anniversary while the line above still reads 5 years, 11 months and 30 days, or 2,191 days in total. Six full years are only complete the next day: 1 March 2026 reads 6 years, 0 months and 1 day.
This is not a bug but a day that does not exist that year. The celebration has to move one way or the other, and the calculator picks the earlier side. In 2028 everything lines up again: 29 February 2028 is the eighth anniversary and both numbers then read exactly 8 years.
Which weekday the next anniversary falls on
The same date moves forward one weekday each year, and two when a 29 February sits between the two dates. That is why 10 September goes like this:

The Saturday that gets skipped
In the table above, 2028 skips Saturday and lands straight on Sunday. The reason is 29 February 2028: 366 days pass between September 2027 and September 2028, so the date moves two weekdays instead of one.
The calculator prints the weekday and the number of days remaining next to the coming anniversary, so a booking or a day off does not depend on paging through a calendar.
Traditional names are a custom, not a rule
For anniversaries that have an established name, the calculator shows it marked as traditional: the first is paper, the fifth wooden, the tenth tin, the twenty-fifth silver and the fiftieth golden.
Those names are not a regulation and nobody maintains them officially — the lists differ from country to country and from source to source, and some of them give the same year a different name. Nothing in the calculation depends on them; they help with a card, they are not a fact to cite.
What the calculator does not do
It counts calendar days, not hours: a date is a date whether something started in the morning or just before midnight, and regardless of time zone. For the span between two arbitrary dates there is the date difference calculator, which also shows whole weeks.
It sends no reminders and stores no date — to keep a calculation, use the share link, which carries the date in the address. A date in the future is refused: an anniversary is counted from something that has already happened.
Work tenure is not counted this way. There the pension convention applies, under which a month has 30 days, so the same period gives a different result — that is the work tenure calculator's job.
