The calculator computes a calendar difference: full years first, then full months, then the remaining days, respecting real month lengths and leap years. The total day count is derived directly from the calendar dates, so it is always exact.
The calendar difference and total days can look inconsistent — a difference of exactly one month can be 28, 29, 30 or 31 days depending on the month.

Frequently asked questions
Is the last day counted?
No — the calculator measures the difference between dates (midnight to midnight). January 1 to January 2 is 1 day. For work tenure, where both days count, use the work experience calculator.
How are leap years handled?
Automatically — February has 29 days in a leap year, and that is reflected in both the calendar difference and the total days.
What if I enter the dates in reverse order?
The calculator swaps them automatically and shows a positive difference.
